My name is Marco van Burik and I am currently doing my Masters in Environmental Science. My Major is Environmental Policy and my Minor in Sustainable Water Governance. I did my bachelor’s degree at the University of Twente in European Public Administration. During my bachelor thesis on the policing mission in Afghanistan, I learned that there is a lot more to geopolitics/conflict than meets the eye. In fact, many conflicts around the world originate from disputes over environmental sectors such as water and energy. Combining my political science background with the intention to solving one of the biggest problems currently faced by humanity, I chose to join the SDD track. My ambition is to contribute to solving environmental conflicts and problems on an international scale. This is the reason I chose to analyse the new concept of the Water-Energy-Food Nexus for my master thesis and find out how conflicts over resource-scarcity can be overcome using methods of governance.
