Hi, I’m Yanniek! At the moment I am situated in Bonn (Germany), where I do an internship at the UNFCCC secretariat. These are exciting times for SDD people like me, since my work currently evolves around implementing the Paris Agreement. My main task is to research how South-South cooperation can be enhanced in order to realize the (I)NDCs of developing countries. It is definitely interesting to see how SDD is practiced in the field and to see the functioning of the UNFCCC in the climate change regime. Being an intern here is a great experience and fits very well into the field of SDD.
I have a broad interest, which is probably reflected by my bachelor in Liberals Arts and Sciences at the Leiden University College. I majored there in sustainability and did a minor in international development, but also followed courses on other global challenges, studied Chinese, and did a psychology track. I very much enjoyed the vibe of a small, international college together with the small classroom setting where there was ample space for interaction. As part of my bachelor I spend one semester abroad at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where I followed courses on environmental policy and China’s sustainable development. In Wageningen I am doing the Climate Studies program with the focus on environmental and climate policy and joined the SDD community in the Fall of 2015.
